Abstract
Large diameter steel pipe is widely used in the world economy. The compliance of large diameter steel pipe’s end geometric parameters such as diameter, ovality and groove angle with production design specifications directly affects the final quality of the merits o f the steel pipe. Traditional methods for measuring large-diameter cylindrical pipe geometry could no longer meet the demands of modern production, and the methods for measuring geometric parameters of large-diameter steel pipe is in urgent need of improvement. Currently, a large-diameter pipe- line detection system has been developed in abroad, but it’s expensive. Therefore, a novel dual CCD imaging method was proposed in this thesis, two high-resolution CCD camera and two backlit LED light were used to make photos of large diameter steel pipe end, and the collected images were transferred to a computer by USB, then the images were analyzed and processed by the designed PC software, finally the large-diameter pipe end geometric parameters were calculated and displayed in real time.
Firstly, a steel block whose size was known and a standard cylindrical plate were used to respectively complete the system calibration of camera center distance and pixel equivalent in the method, which obtained the upper and lower edges’ longitudinal coordinates of the steel block and two contour pixels camera equivalent value. Secondly, the collected images of large diameter steel pipe were processed to gain the pipe end edge’s longitudinal coordinates and tilt angle. Finally, the steel plate’s upper and lower edge longitudinal coordinates and contour pixels camera equivalent values were used to calculate the required large-diameter pipe end diameter, ovality and groove angle.
