Abstract In the tidal wave of broadcasting television field’s digitalization, digital broadcasting television is substituting for analog broadcasting television. However, a mass of existing analog TV can not be washed out in a short time, and in the process of the transition from analog TV to digital TV, the digital TV terminal receiving system’s Set Top Box is the best choice in the periods. This paper discusses some important technologies closed to CATV receiving system deeply, based on the system blue print provided by Company ST in SDN. It inchludes MPEG-2 system level and MPEG-2/DVB service information. It also describes how to realize EPG(Electronic Program Guide) and program search based on the service information technology at length. In the realization of program search design, it adoptes the traditional table search method, which is firstly search the NIT(Network Information Table). Secondly, through the NIT information, search the main NIT table which has all channel information. And lastly search each channel and save the program information. It also improve on the traditional table search order through create new table search threads and adopt parallel search methods, thus advance table search rates. In the realization of EPG design, this paper adoptes a method witch through assemble SI info to achieve EPG. In this paper, it construct EPG info database, accomplish EPG info table receiving, realize EPG application interface, and also accomplish the function of EPG. The contents in this paper are the main parts of the STB software design.
