ABSTRACT 3D experience has always been the goal the people pursue. With the development of electronics, television and film industry, 3D has gradually entered into people’s life. In recent years, the technology of 3D photography, 3D image editing as well as 3D coding and decoding has been gradually mature, and all kinds of 3D TV systems have become commercially available around the world. 3D TV combines 3D video capture technology, network coding and transmission technology, 3D video reconstruction technology and 3D display technology, which is a new kind of interactive media application in broadcasting network after the digital television. 3D digital TV set-top-box discussed in this thesis is an important part of 3D TV system. This thesis mainly studies the solutions of HD3D (High Definition 3D) digital TV set-top-box based on STi7108 of STMicroelectronics Inc. and explores the design and implementation of HD3D digital TV set-top-box. The thesis also discusses a series of technology of HD3D TV in detail, from signal data receiving, signal data decoding to 3D video reconstruction and output. In view of the current market demand and the trend of industry development, this thesis intends to design and implement this system by adopting the embedded Linux operating system, combining with OS21 system of STMicroelectronics Inc. and utilizing ST’s set-top-box chip STi7108 that possesses 3D processing function. This system fuses the reception of cable television and IP television, not only supporting common digital TV and High-definition digital TV, but also providing time-sharing video sources in the pattern of up and down, right and left, back and forth, which may realize time-sharing 3D video reception, decoding and output as well as 2D video reception, decoding and output. Besides, the system is designed based on the principles of scalability and could adapt to future 3D TV system according to actual needs. Beginning with the research background and signific
