ABSTRACT Given the rapid development of information technology and Internet, it has become a trend for organizations to automate work through efficient information management network using latest management information systems and software development platforms. To satisfy the school’s need for office automation, and to find solutions for the inefficiency and complications in the current system, this paper offers the designing and implementation of a “Web-based Office Automation System”. The system employs the Web-based object-oriented technology and modular design methodology, and applies the design philosophy and software engineering methodology of B/S three-tier structure. Aiming at the teaching, scientific researching, using of funds and personnel management of college teachers, the system offers a prompt and accurate tool for work summary and performance evaluation. Through the switched network applications of the OA system, the system makes information transfer more expedite and precise. The system mainly employs SSH framework to develop an OA system based on B/S mode. SSH framework is a widely used open source framework for developing Web application. The introduction of SSH framework efficiently improves the code reusability and development efficiency of application systems. The system has went through a half-a-year preparation and a 1-month testing, and has gone live for 9 months, processing an average of 50M of document data per day. All 18 administrative staff in the school are equipped with USB security keys to secure their login. Serving 101 teachers in the school, the system has implemented informatization of college office automation system and has remarkably improved the efficiency of college management. College office automation system is a new type of office mode in the information society.
