* * * * * * * * * * * * * * It is easiest to think about our business in these three stages The first - - expanding the portfolio - - provides the raw material for our business we look for the markets that would benefit from new technology and where there is high commercial potential we target technologies and technology areas to meet those needs we then look for the people, the researchers, the research groups, the companies that may have the solutions and persuade them that we can create greater value from their technologies than they could unaided We add value in two main areas: the first is developing the IP assets - the patents. Very simply, we understand patents, how to creat a strong patent portfolio and how to make money from it. Usually we create a much stronger patent position than where we started. We often create value when what we were handed was potentially valuable, but the key building blocks were either absent or flawed The second is the development of the technology itself, where increasingly we fund some further development work, taking the technology a bit further In parallel we are working on the commercialisation strategy, choosing which route to go down, whether there are obvious partners. Whether we should go it alone for a while. Deciding which global markets are the priorities. Finally, we make money from a variety of commercial routes - - through the annuity streams we create from royalties on sales, from revenues from joint ventures and from realisations from our equity investments.
