AbstractAB Abstract AB STRACT Flame spread over the surface of liquid fuel is a typical phenomenon occurred in fuel leakage fires.In recent years,with the development of planes,fleets and petrochemical industry,fire accidents frequently occur due to kerosene leakage. Generally speaking,aviation kerosene flame spread has the characteristics of fast spreading and large burning intensity.So aviation kerosene fire accidents would lead to large numbers of casualties and economic losses.It is very interesting and necessary to study flame spreading characteristics of aviation kerosene. The purpose of this work is to contribute to the experimental study of aviation kerosene by using the schlieren image system,micro.thermocouple and infrared thermal imager.The paper had analyzed flame spread phenomena in three different conditions:single。end spreading flame,two—end spreading flame and spreading in different channel width.Based on the analysis of the process of flame spreading over flue surface,the mechanism for flame propagation is investigated and the characteristics of fuel surface temperature rise are revealed.These studies Can help further understanding the characteristics of fame spreading over liquid fuel.The paper covers the following sections. The experimental of flame spreading of aviation kerosene has been developed. The experimental setup used in this research is illustrated in Figure 1.Experiments were conducted in an open steel channel with the length of 1 20cm,width of 4cm and depth of 4em.Aviation kerosene Was filled in the channel(its open cup flashpoint Was 66(2)and a little of heptane Was poured on the ignition region as firelighter.The lateral wails were fitted with windows of Pyrex,40cm in length and 12cm in height, to allow optical access to the fluid—flows under fuel surface.The ignition region Was located at one end of the channel with the length of 3cm,separated from the pool by using a baffle to keep the temperature of fuel surface out of the igni
