They are important aspects of polite language. As a significant aspect of politeness phenomenon existing globally, greeting may be defined as an episode of interaction between interactants in the beginning of face-to-face encounters to acknowledge each other?s presence, to initiate and maintain interpersonal relationship, and to observe politeness. As an everyday practice that is routinized and happens at very low levels of awareness in interactions, greeting is seemingly a spontaneous reaction to the encountering of people. It is such a quick, simple, and conventionalized episode of communication that people usually give no thought to what happens during those few seconds of everyday life, such practices are cognitively significant in understanding the structure and the essence of a society and culture.
