Abstract :This paper proposes an analytic framework of human life quality,which consists
in the level of consumption, the structure of consumption, the pattern of daily life, and life alti-
tude and feeling.Sufficiently using sample data of Nanjing municipality during 1998-2000, the
essay measures systemicly the level and structure of consumption, leisure time, community par-
ticipation, and su jective feelings of improvement of life style and living standard of the aged in
contemporary city.The author also analyses the difficulties the aged confronted and gives an ex-
pectation to the improvement on the social policy-making and living standard of the aged in the
city.
