Blood pressure Concept Blood pressure (BP) usually means arterial blood pressure or systemic blood pressure and is important vital sign. 2、Blood pressure (1) Blood pressure assessment ① Direct manometry Method: Catheter is delivered from peripheral artery to aorta, ductal end contacts monitoring assessing blood pressure system and pressure value is automatically demonstrated . Characteristic: It is not affected by peripheral arterial systole , precise and real time but is invasive so suitable to serious case. 2. Blood pressure ② Indirect measurement Cuff pressurized method, baumanometer measurement. Baumanometer includes mercury column, spring and electronic manometer , mercury column is commonly used in clinic or hospital. Merit of indirect measurement is convenient and used easily. But it is affected by variation of systole and diastole of peripheral artery. 2. Blood pressure (2) Operating instruction of hemodynamometry No smoking and coffee at least half an hour, taking a rest at least for 5 minutes Sitting position on backing chair. The cuff is uniformly wrapped around the upper arm. Lower margin of the cuff is about 2-3cm above elbow. The center of the cuff is on the surface of arteria brachialis (肱动脉). After brachial dance is touched, auscultator is put on brachial dance . 2. Blood pressure (2) Operating instruction of hemodynamometry. As filled gas, the doctor auscultated the sound of brachial dance . Pressure value is read according to phase 5 of Korotkoff. At first sonorous flapping sound is heard (phase 1).
