I. Teaching objectives:
1. Learn and practice the new words and phrases: in the center of, yard, flower, house, large, left, at the back of, on the left/right of.
2. Go on learning the prepositions of position and the structure of “There be”.
Talk about existence.
There is a small garden in the center of the yard.
There are many beautiful flowers in the garden. But there aren’t any trees.
At the back of the yard, there is a nice house.
Near the house, there is an apple tree.
On the left of the yard, there is a kitchen and a dining room.
There are many beautiful flowers in the garden.
3. Learn and practice reading skills
1) Skimming the passage about “My Home”
2) Scanning the passage and answer questions in 1b.
Teaching Procedure
Step1. Greetings.(1m)
Step2. Guessing game. (3m)
T shows some pictures and Ss guess “What’s in/on/under the…?”
Step3. Pre-reading. (6m)
1. Look at the picture of teacher’s home on the screen and learn about new words.
T: This is my home. And this is a nice house.
T: What’s this? (point to the yard) Do you know?
S: It’s a yard. It’s a large yard.
T: There are some flowers in the center of the yard.
T: What can you see on the right of the yard?
S: There’s a house.
T: Yes, there are two bedrooms on the right of the yard.
T: What’s on the left of the yard?
S: There’s a kitchen.
T: Yes, the kitchen is on the left of the yard. There’re some tall trees at the back of the yard.
(Ss read the new words and phrases together and try to remember them.)
T: Ok, now, listen carefully. This is my home. It is a nice house. There are some beautiful flowers in the center of the yard. Some trees are at the back of the yard. On the right of the yard, there are two bedrooms. On the left of the yard, there’s a kitchen. I love my home very much.
2. Look at the picture in 1a and answer 2 questions.(3m)
How many rooms are there in the picture?
