A GREAT Man   Abraham Lincoln; His life (February 12th 1809---April 15th 1865) His birth: February 12th 1809 in Hodgenville, Kentucky, United States His death: April 14th 1865 in Washington, DC, United States Occupation: Lawyer / President ; Social and family background Abraham Lincoln was born in a cabin in Hardin Country, Kentucky, on February 12th ,1809. His mother, Nancy, died when he was nine, and the family moved to Indiana. Then, his father Thomas Lincoln married Sarah Bush Johnston , who encouraged Abraham’s education. In 1830, when he was 21 years old, his family moved again, this time to Illinois militia during the Black Hawk War. ; After receiving his law license in 1836, he married Mary Todd on November 4th ,1842. In 1847, he was elected served one term in the U.S. House of Representatives. He changed his political alliance to the Republican Party in 1856. ; Abraham Lincoln served as the 16th President of the United States from March 1861 until his assassination in April 1865.; ; On April 14th 1865 at Ford Theatre in Washington, DC, Abraham Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes-Booth. He died on April 15th from the wound. ; The commemoration; Contribution As President, he made the Republican Party into a strong national organization. He united a lot of the northern Democrats. On January 1st ,1863,he issued the Emancipation Proclamation that declared forever freedom for those slaves with the Confederacy. He reminded us that all men are created equally and prevented the United States from being separated. He held the opinion that all men should enjoy the right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness.
