Teamwork = Team members work together T--together E--everyone A--accomplishes M--more W--with O--organization R--responsible K--knowledge Work team: a group that works together to create a much higher quality product than people who are working alone. Cultural Elements Culture- Collectivistic vs. Individualistic Group-orientated vs. Individual-orientated Total Quality Management (TQM) TQM is a program for constantly improving processes in a company. One major factor of TQM: Involving the employees Two cases of TQM: Ford Motor Company John Deere Groups of 5 to 10 people from the same department who meet for a few hours each week to share ideas or make suggestions on how to improve a process. Features: Usually temporary Problem - Solution Groups of 10 to 15 people who have the freedom to manage themselves on a daily basis. Features: Long-term or permanent Decision-making Multiskilling Employees from the same hierarchical level, but from different departments, who come together to complete a project. Features: Functions (skills, fields, backgrounds) involved For complex projects such as car-designing Teams that control things. Features: Upper team members For different functions (e.g., Marketing, Finance, etc.) Team-building Strategies Members should spend time together. Members should have the right skills. Members should be given positive feedback and rewarded high performance. High-performance standards to the team members should be communicated.
