Unit 10 Declining the Counteroffer and Re-counter Offer The Study Purpose Writing the Counter-counteroffer or Decline the Counteroffer When the writer writes a counter- counteroffer letter, the letter should include the following contents but not every part is necessary. 1The writer should confirm that he has got the letter of counteroffer, and express the thanks. Ex. Upon receipt of your counter-offer Sept.6, we have made a very careful study. Ex. We have received your letter of March 8 that the price offered by us for the COMPAQ 1200 computer is found to be on the high side and should be reduced to U.S.$800 per set. 2. The writer can explain the condition or reason why he/she can’t accept the counter-counter offer. Ex. We much regret to say that your counteroffer is not in keeping with the current market and it is too low to be acceptable. Ex. There is no room for a reduction as we have quoted you the lowest price. 3. The writer can give some suggestions or make some appropriate concessions, but this time the condition is more favorable for the other part and is better than the last time. Ex. Our cost of raw materials has risen sharply in the past four months and to reduce prices by 15% as you mentioned could not be done without considerable lowering of our standards of quality. Ex. Considering our long-standing mutual relationship, let’s meet half way. 4. The writer should suggest the receiver accept the counteroffer. Ex. As the market is declining, we hope you will consider our counter-offer most favourable and tell us the acceptance at your earliest convenience. Ex. To be frank with you, if it weren’t for our good relations, we wouldn’t consider making you a firm offer at this price. We can’t satisfy your counter-offer for the time being. 5.
