Abstract
The objective of this document is to familiarize the reader and student with the basic principles
and techniques used in the DELMIA DPM Assembly Process Simulation workbench. The exercises will
focus on the simulation of the assembly of a Stratocaster guitar. This exercise will build a product from
its individual component parts laid out on a workbench. In DELMIA terminology, the product is the
actual part or assembly of parts that are being worked upon. The product can be thought of as the
object or objects being manufactured, moving through an assembly line.
Introduction
Throughout the paper, the reader will use CATIA CATParts and CATProducts to simulate a typical
assembly process in a manufacturing environment. Simulating the process allows the manufacturing
engineers to design, review and validate digital plant floor layouts and assembly lines. At the
completion of these exercises the student will have a process defined that is suited for the next step in
shop floor simulation- Human Builder. All the required data files for this training document are included
in the “TR-1_DELMIA.zip” file, making the reader’s hands-on experience as realistic as possible.
