Abstract The Oracle Bones of Shi Group, named after a foretelling officer called Shi, are the oldest Oracle Bones so far. Generally, they are regarded as the beginning of Oracle Bones in Yin Dynasty Ruins and their age might be traced from the late days to the middle or early days of Wuding Age. First of all, the paper reviews the historical situations when these Oracle Bones were unearthed. Eight Oracle Bones of Shi Group, which were unearthed in T53(4A) layer in the south of Xiaotun village by researchers of Archaeological Institute of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in 1973, are important archaeological objects to re-judge the age of this group. Now, most of scholars in Oracle Bone research fields have admitted that Oracle Bones of Shi Group could belong to earlier age. The main body of this paper contains five chapters: the category of big word, the affiliated category of big word, the category of small word, the category of which are transition between Bin Group and Jian Group^ and the category between Li Group and Jian Group. Every chapter includes two aspects as follows. First, general discourse in which unearthed situation, rhetoric, language paradigm, language type, forecast method and word formation are discussed. Second, the forecast contents of all sub-categories are analyzed. There are large percent War-Oracle Bones and Sacred-Oracle Bones in all categories, but still many different characteristics in each category. According to different traits, different research methods will be used to carry out systematic basic classification and analysis. For example, the methods of statistics and analysis are used in the category of big word to research the objects of sacred, the quantity of gifts and so on. However, general discourse is also adopted in other parts.
