Analysis Wuthering Height on Female Gothic Novel 1 Introduction: Emily Bronte (1818~1848) is an English woman write of remarkable talent during the 19th century of world literature. She is well known for her only novel Wuthering Heights. It is full of fantastic imagery and passionate feelings, which is based on the Gothic tradition of the late 19th century, a style of literature that disciples supernatural elements, crumbling ruins, moonless nights, grotesque imagery, a dark and ominous atmosphere, seeking to create effects of fear, fascinate and mystery. Emily Bronte makes use of her artistic subtlety and unusual image to depict some unforgettable characters. Such as Heathcliff, he is imperious, demanding and wild. Catherine is impetuous, head—strong, proud and inconsistent. The description of the doomed love between passionate Catharine and Heathcliff, which makes both Emily and her work unique. There are various methods analyzed from Gothic novel, especially from Female Gothic novel. The author is trying to explain this work as a female gothic novel based on the following three aspects: Firstly, in the history of English literature, the early Gothic novels originated in the latter half of the 18th century. It was a good period that the whole story happened, developed and ended. At that time, English Gothic novel were influencing the country. As the development of Gothic novel, people forgot the early Gothic novels gradually. But from the Emily Bronte’ Wuthering Heights, we can find the Gothic features.
