Introduction to the FieldFox RF Microwave Analyzer FieldFox Fundamentals — Lesson 1 Introduction Keysight’s FieldFox handheld analyzers are a new generation of portable instruments that provide a variety of powerful functions, all in one unit. They combine a precision microwave / radio-frequency (RF) swept frequency source with a tuned phase-sensitive receiver. Embedded software configures the FieldFox analyzers to be traditional microwave / RF instruments such as a spectrum analyzer (SA), a network analyzer (NA), or a cable-antenna test (CAT) system. Other functions that use the same microwave / RF platform are available as software packages, such as an RF power meter and a vector voltmeter. FieldFox also features high-accuracy measurements with greatly simplified calibration and a variety of connectivity options that allow users to control and monitor the instrument remotely. This application note gives an overview of the FieldFox instrument including its physical features, basic functions, and display modes. It provides cable measurement examples made in the CAT mode and discusses important measurements such as return loss and cable loss.
