White (Elwyn Brooks White ) Born Mount Vernon, New York July11,1899 Died October1,1985 (aged 86) Abstract： Leading American essayist and literary stylist of his time. White was known for his crisp, graceful, relaxed style. Whites stories ranged from satire to childrens fiction. life Born in Mount Vernon, New York, White was the youngest child of Samuel Tilly White, a piano manufacturer, and Jessie Hart. He served in the army before going on to college. White graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1921. In 1927,he published his first article in New Yorker magazine. Then from 1929 White worked for The New Yorkers weekly magazine, remaining in its staff for the rest of his career.  His first childrens book, Stuart Little, was published in 1945, and Charlottes Web appeared in 1952.
