This paper shows the capabilities of AMESim to develop such a model and will help AMESim users to develop similar models using the models setup for this example. This paper can also be used as a guideline to develop other models with AMESim. It is recommended to structure any device being modeled in a system and components. In our case, the system is the axial piston pump, it can be divided in components like the pistons, the swash plate, the variable orifices of the inlet and outlet ports of the pump, the control valve that ensures a desired pressure in the circuit and a stroking piston to adjust the pump displacement. Two main degrees of freedom are taken into account, the rotary inertia of the pump barrel and the rotary inertia of the swash plate. The center of gravity of both inertias is assumed to be on the rotary axis of the barrel. The forces acting on the swash plate (piston forces and stroking piston) are considered horizontal. This means that the radial forces applied on the swash plate are neglected. The accuracy of the model will thus be higher for smaller swash plate angles.
