* Benign pleomorphic adenoma in a 72-year-old woman with a nonpainful, nontender, slowly enlarging parotid mass. A total parotidectomy was performed, and a benign pleomorphic adenoma was found, containing a focal hemorrhagic tissue fragment. A, Proton density–weighted axial image demonstrates a well-defined hypointense mass (M) lateral to the retromandibular vein (r) arising within the parotid gland (P). Foci of high signal intensity (arrow) are consistent with the hemorrhagic tissue noted histologically. B, Corresponding T2-weighted axial image demonstrates a hypointense rim (white arrows) suggestive of an uneven fibrous capsule. The focal area within the mass (black arrow) is now low in signal intensity, consistent with hemorrhage.
