Review Discuss the following in a small group. (1) When will you have to socialize with business associates? Before getting down to business; during a dinner; in the evening over drinks; travelling together to the factory etc. (2) What are good topics and bad topics when socializing with a foreign visitor to your exhibition stand or your office? Good topics may include food, whether, fashion, sports; holidays, local customs, local history, hobbies and interests etc. Bad topics may include money, racial tension, region, politics, marriage etc. (3) Is it Ok to talk business over a meal or drinks in China? What do Chinese people usually talk over meals? Yes. Chinese businesspeople don’t mind talking business over a meal. Actually, they often close a deal at a dinner table. Receiving Clients Learning Objectives After learning this unit, you will be able to 1. attract more buyers to visit your stand. 2. receive clients appropriately at the stand. 3. entertain clients by business dinners. 4. build friendly business relationship at the first contact. Step2: Discuss the following questions with your partner 1. Is entertaining clients important for companies? Why or Why not? Certainly, entertaining clients is an important factor for our business. 2. What kind of entertainment do you think is suitable for visiting clients??? Going shopping, having a dinner, giving gifts and going sightseeing.
