Overview Sustainability is defined by the EPA as: “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” /Sustainability/ It stems from a concept developed by Thomas Jefferson which basically means not leaving a debt for future generations. The plastics industry takes a lot of criticism due to the large amount of products that end up in land fills or on the side of the road as litter. The plastics industry is not doing the littering, it is the people who use the products.
