1. Introduction

4. Types of titles
• declarative title
• descriptive or neutral title
• interrogative title
• compound title
1)Declarative title
This type of title is composed of a complete sentence
including what the paper says about the result of the
study, not just what it covers.
E.g.: Adipose gene expression prior to weight loss can
differentiate and weakly predict dietary responders
2)Descriptive or neutral title
This type of title describes the subject of the paper and
does not reveal the main outcome or conclusion.
E.g.: A worldwide phylogeography for the human X
chromosome
3)Interrogative title
This type of title indicates the subject of the paper in the
form of a question.
e.g.: Are there rearrangement hotspots in the human
genome?
4) Compound title
This type of title consists of two parts in the title,
providing complementary information in the second part.
E.g.: Estimating vadose zone hydraulic properties using
ground penetrating radar: The impact of prior
information
5. Linguistic features of titles
• using more nouns or nouns phrases
• using gerund phrases
• using nominalization of verbs
• using compound nouns
