POWER PLANT (CFM) - Presentation The A320 family is equipped with CFM International (CFMI) CFM 56 series engines. * POWER PLANT (CFM) - Presentation */12 Like most engines today, this engine comprises: a Low Pressure (LP) compressor stage, a High Pressure (HP) compressor stage, a combustion chamber, and a turbine stage. * POWER PLANT (CFM) - Presentation */12 The front fan, the Low Pressure compressor and the Low Pressure turbine are connected to form the low speed rotor (N1). * POWER PLANT (CFM) - Presentation */12 The High Pressure compressor is connected to the High Pressure turbine to form the high speed rotor (N2). * POWER PLANT (CFM) - Presentation */12 The high speed rotor drives an accessory gear box which is located at the bottom of the fan case. * POWER PLANT (CFM) - Presentation */12 The combustion chamber is equipped with two igniters, called A and B. * POWER PLANT (CFM) - Presentation */12 Each engine is equipped with a Full Authority Digital Engine Control system (FADEC) providing complete engine management. For redundancy, each FADEC has two channels A and B, one active and one in standby. * POWER PLANT (CFM) - Presentation */12 Each engine is equipped with reversers actuated hydraulically. Note: ENG 1 reversers are actuated by the green hydraulic system, ENG 2 reversers are actuated by the yellow one. * POWER PLANT (CFM) - Presentation */12 The first indication on the E/WD is the N1 of each engine. Both indicators are identical. The green needle indicates the actual N1. This value is also displayed digitally. The white circle shows the N1 corresponding to the thrust lever position. The amber mark shows the maximum N1. This is the N1 that would be produced with the thrust levers fully forward. The beginning of the red area shows the max permissible N1.
