Mixing Tube Workshop 10 Overview This workshop simulates an inline static mixing device. Two side inlets inject hot fluid into the main flow just before a restriction in the pipe designed to enhance mixing A Profile Boundary Condition is used for the main inlet which is at 298 [K] Fluid enters the side inlets at 325 [K] and 5 [m/s] Mesh Checking Start CFX-Post and load the file Inline_Mixer_Mesh.gtm using File Load Results Select Tools Mesh Calculator Examine the results from each of the functions Mesh Checking Two metrics fall outside the recommended values: Minimum Face Angle: recommended minimum 10 degrees Element Volume Ratio: recommended maximum 30 Now create some plots to view these mesh regions: Create a Volume object (Location Volume) of Minimum Face Angle Set Method to Isovolume, Mode to Below Value and Value to 15 [degrees] There are very few elements with a Min. Face Angle 15 degrees Create another Volume object using the Isovolume Method with the variable Element Volume Ratio above a Value of 30 On the Colour tab change the Colour to something that will stand out Again, there are a few elements with high Element Volume Ratios They are at the same location as the elements with poor face angles Mesh Checking Edit the object Default 2D Region (under the Mesh Regions branch in the Outline tree) View the mesh on this object by editing its Render properties (Hint: enable the Draw Lines check box) A finer mesh in the area highlighted by the Isovolumes would help to improve the mesh quality. A coarse mesh is used here to keep solution times to a minimum. Quit or Close CFX-Post Starting the Simulation Start CFX-Pre and create a new simulation In the Outline Tree, right click on Mesh, and select Import Mesh Import the mesh file Inline_Mixer_Mesh.gtm this mesh represents one quarter of the full geometry Expressions for Viscosity For this workshop, the default viscosity of water will be replaced by a temperature dependant expression Right-click on Expre
