10/1/2004 July 30, 1999 Geometry Repair - Workshop 1 F6-Plane Description This tutorial will introduce some basic geometry tools Deletion Transformation Trimming Find and close gaps and holes Geometry creation Procedure One file contains an airplane model including fuselage, wing pylon and nacelle housing Another contains a fairing modification that gives a more aerodynamic profile between the wing and fuselage. We will modify the geometry to fit the fairing on the rest of the airplane, trimming out the surfaces that the fairing replaces. We will also remove the pylon and nacelle surfaces and plug the hole in the wing making up the pylon profile Create a Project Choose File - New Project Browse to multizone working directory Enter the project name Type in the File name as: wingbody.prj Open Geometry Read in Geometry: File - Geometry - Open Geometry.. Select: F6-FEM_v2.tin (airplane) and DLR_F6_FX2B_ONLY_v4.tin (fairing) using the File Browser and Open Select Merge files when prompted Rename parts First Build Diagnostic Topology To calculate surface connectivity Easier to select surfaces by “flood fill” methodology Select Geometry Repair Geometry Build Diagnostic Topology Set Tolerance to 0.05 Apply Right select Parts Type in new part name FUSELAGE Select one of the fuselage surfaces Set feature angle for flood fill in the selection toolbar (or “g” on the keyboard) Use 45 degrees (default) Select all items attached to current selection (flood fill) in toolbar (or “l” (lower case L) on the keyboard) Repeat for wing surface, first typing in WING as the Part name Also, put thin surfaces in back of wing (trailing edge) in WING part Rename Parts Right mouse select W3LOC106 in the Parts tree and Rename to FAIRING Delete nacelle and pylon surfaces as shown Select Geometry Delete Surface Select one pylon and one nacelle surface and use same flood fill selection as before Manually delete thin surfaces in back of pylon and rear of nacelle Scale Geometry FAIRING a
