* * * * * * * * * The dashboard concept is not a new one, but several factors and advancements in technology have made it easier for businesses to implement useful, real-time dashboards that can have an impact of overall business performance and execution. One significant factor of course is the ever increasing speed-of-business, spurred by the expansive global economy which presents more opportunity, but also increased competition. Additionally, most business have investments in systems that can provide pertinent business information, but these systems often require manual aggregation of information and ongoing IT investment to deliver the information. As users become more comfortable with browser-based applications, they seek management tools that can deliver exactly the information they want, at the time when it is most useful. The emergence of Portal technology, like IBM’s WebSphere Portal and service oriented architectures, now make it easy for companies to deliver role-based dashboard applications that can aggregate information from disparate systems into a single composite business user interface. * So, based on the previous slide it is obvious many companies are investing in dashboards. Of course, many companies have already done so and are reaping many benefits. Hurwitz Associates recently surveyed 113 IT executives from large companies, who had implemented or were planning to implement dashboards. The purpose of the survey was to try and understand the increasing demand for dashboards and to also take a deeper look at the corporate requirements for implementing dashboards. The survey illuminated four key results, which I will build out here on this slide. The first result is that dashboard usage is widespread and growing.. In other words, dashboards aren’t just a passing fad. What Hurwitz found was that 90% of the companies had 200 dashboard users and planned to add 500 or more users over the next year and a half.
