Book 1 unit 1 Teenage life Reading for Writing Analysis of the teaching material The teaching material of this unit is taken from book 1 unit 1 Teenage life Reading for writing. The reading material is a letter of advice written by Susan Luo to help a person who is worried due to his friend’s addiction to computer and online games, a problem that students are familiar with. This letter is made up of five parts which are date, greeting, body, close and signature. In addition, knowing what the problem is and how he/ she feels is illustrated in the first paragraph and her advice, reasons and expectations in the second paragraph. Analysis of the student Students in grade one are usually active and cooperative in the class and they should have mastered some basic expressions of giving advice such as “I recommend that….”, “I think you should…”, and “why not…”. It’s not unusual for students of their ages to be attracted to computer or online games therefore it’s not that hard for teachers to involve students in the designed activities. What’s more, some students are faced with the same problem with Xu Ting so their writing can not only help Xu Ting but also themselves as well. Teaching objectives At the end of the class students should be able to 1. find and use expressions to give advice 2. identify and obtain the structure of a letter of advice. 3. write a letter of advice successfully. 4. realize the importance of communicating and helping Important and difficult points The important t point of this lesson is to master the structure of a letter of advice and the difficult point is to write a letter of advice successfully.
