Documentary is to record real life, and this type of documentary to catch the eyes of the audience, in addition to the film itself to be creative, connotation, value, the theme of the documentary directly reflects the directors understanding of the documentary content. The determination of the theme is very important for the documentary. No matter from the plan, shooting, editing should be closely around the theme to create. Determine the theme to better show the core of the documentary. Based on the authors graduation work —— documentary keeping ones heart in sight as an example, this paper will discuss how the editor should grasp the application of the theme, take the angle of the editor as the starting point, analyze the relationship between the theme and each link in the documentary, and how the editor creates the artistic image through the concrete expression technique.
