Class Opening and Review
GREETING
Say Good morning(or Good afternoon), class. How are you today? Encourage the class to reply Fine, thanks (or thank you). How are you? You say Fine, thank you(or thanks).
PLAY SIMON SAYS
See the directions for ,Simon Says in Games at the back of this guide. Play the simple version of the game where you perform actions and simply say Simon says do this (or just Do this to trick them).
Remember that the students imitate your actions when you say Simon says do this, but not when you only say Do this.
PLAY HIDE IT
Play Hide It to learn “thing”
Where is my/the ___?There it is ! Thanks. …They are things
What do we need for school?
Can you list things for school?
How many do you need?
Where can we buy these things?
Now talk about with your group, then write down.
Write “thing” “need” and “store” on the blackboard. And repeat them again and again.
Teaching Tip
Whenever you can, open the class with a quick action song or physical game using English. This helps motivate and stimulate the students, This also helps to focus the students on English.
A game like Simon Says is excellent because it forces the students to listen very carefully. This develops listening skills and prepares them to listen more carefully in the following lesson.
