* * * * * * * * * * * * * * In the Yuan Dynasty (1206—1368), porcelain with printed patterns ( 印花) prevailed, and the Blue-and-White Porcelain (元青花) was in the main stream. With the white base decorated under the glaze of a blue pigment, the porcelain is indeed elegant and gorgeous, pure and bright. Its vitality and aesthetic connotation have formed a perfect combination of traditional arts and crafts. No wonder it has been so highly valued home and abroad. The Ming (1368—1644) and Qing (1616—1911) dynasties witnessed still another extraordinary period in chinaware manufacture. Porcelain products in these two dynasties included the Vitrolite painting(瓷板画), the Enameled Porcelain(景泰蓝), the Famille-Rose Porcelain, and the Color-Glazed Porcelain (五彩瓷). The list could go on and on. Most of the brilliant chinaware was manufactured from Jingdezhen known as the Capital of Porcelain. Chinese porcelain wares look pure as jade, bright as mirror, and thin as egg- shell. If we gently knock at them, a musical chime as nice as a ringing bell will be sent out. These gorgeous porcelain wares not only facilitated and improved Chinese people’s life; they had also been exported overseas and influenced the lifestyle of other people. So, porcelain has functioned well in the economic and cultural exchanges between China and the outside world.
