Design details include high resolution photographs ofprinted wire boards, electronic component part numbers, connections between various components, oscilloscope traces ofvarious signals, and schematics of some ofthe key circuits involved. An analysis of this data has found a cause for sudden unintended acceleration (SUA)in Tesla Model 3s that increases the accelerator pedal percent readings in both the vehicle log and in the EDR report without the driver stepping on the accelerator pedal. This cause of SUA also explains why Teslas pedal monitor cannot prevent unintended acceleration when it shouldprevent torque from being generated while the accelerator pedal is not pressed. It may also explain how one case of sudden acceleration occurred while the driver was outside the vehicle. 1 Introduction On January 8, 2021, NHTSA denied a defect petition alleging 232 complaints of sudden unintended acceleration (SUA) in Tesla vehicles
