Teaching aims:
Knowledge Objects: Be able to master the useful expressions and sentence patterns in 3a.
Be able to summarize the structure of invitations.
Be able to write a passage about invitations.
Cultural Awareness: There are differences of making invitations between Chinese and Western culture.
Emotional Attitude: Turn down an invitation politely.
STEPS
DESIGNING IDEAS
TESCHING PROCEDURES
Step1. Greeting and warm-up
1. To warm-up and arouse students’ background knowledge.
2. Achieve the culture awareness.
Greet to all.
Show some pictures to all. Tell students that I’m going to be heavier this weekend. Ask students to guess why.
Tell students I got theses invitations from different people. They are informal invitations. Ask students when do you get formal invitations?
Show students that in western countries people make formal invitations because of wedding, housewarming, opening, ect.
Step 2.
Before-writing
1. Lead in the topic.
2. Get the key structure of an invitation by reading the sample in 3a.
3. Focus on the different languages when making invitations to different people.
Show students the picture of 3a. Tell students this is a school library. There will be a library opening. If the headmaster is a Chinese, how will he invite your parents to come? If the headmaster is a foreigner, how will he invite your parents to come?
Ask students have a quick look at the invitation and then find out the host, guest and event. Then, check the answers.
Ask students to answer the questions in 3a. Then, check the answers.
Ask students what the key information is in an invitation.
Besides the structure, what sentence patterns does the headmaster use to invite others? Can you use them to invite your parents/friends? What are the sentences you may use?
Step3. While-writing
Remind students of the key points in writing.
Students have a chance to use the target language to write an invitation.
Ask students to pay attention to think of an event that he/she
