Rule1: 如果主语从句中缺少主语、宾语或定语，引导词用what（指物），who/whom（指人），which（指哪一个）。 e.g. What I wanted was a few days’ rest. Who will go to the energy conference is not important. Which hotel he is staying at is unknown to us. Rule2: 如果主语从句中缺少状语，引导词用when（指时间），where（指地点），why（指原因），how（指方式）。 e.g. When he will be back depends on the weather. Where we live doesn’t matter. How the man died puzzled us all. Why he isn’t here today is unknown. Rule3: 如果主语从句中不缺少成分，引导词用that（无意，不省），whether/if（是否，句首不用if）。 e.g. That they are badly in need of help is quite clear. Whether
