Lesson Plan 嘉善高级中学 沈思瑜 Teaching aims: After the class, students will be able to: 1. understand the main idea of the passage and each paragraph; 2. analyze the reasons, efforts and difficulties of planting trees; 3. inherit the spirits of never giving up and making a difference to the planet. Teaching procedure: 1. Activity One: enjoy a short video of bamboo forests and write one sentence to describe the scene. Aim: to arouse students’ interest and prepare them for the reading content. 2. Activity Two: skim for the main idea of the passage Aim: to guide students to figure out the basic information including when, where, what, who, why… 3. Activity Three: divide the text into 3 parts and find words or phrases to summarize the main idea of each paragraph. Aim: help students better understand and analyze the passage in logical order. Part 1(para 1): Molai’s concern Part 2(para2-3): Molai’s bamboo trial Part 3(para4-6):Molai’s forest of trees Part 4(para7-9): Molai’s achievement and impact Part 5(para 10):Molai’s anticipation 4. Activity Four: QA section Aim: address some difficult and meaningful points in reading. Q1: What happened after the flood? Q2: What was Molai’s special way of watering bamboo saplings? Q3: What kind of difficulties did Molai meet in his tree planting efforts? Q4: What’s the influence after the forest became known? Q5: What adjectives can be used to describe Molai the hero? 5. Activity Five: summarize the passage within 60 words. Aim: help students review the text and prepare them for the following writing section. 6, Activity Six: group work of a suitable award presentation speech. Aim: help to highlight the spirits and practice writing techniques. Example:
