Teaching plan for M1U1 Anne’s Best Friend
Teaching Aims:
Student will be able to
master the following words and expressions, and apply to daily practice:
add up, calm, concern, ignore, go through, set down, a series of, outdoors, on purpose, in order to, at dusk, face to face, no longer/ not… any longer
understand how to express feelings through a certain kind of writing technique—imagery;
build a correlation between emotions and images found in the text;
imitate the language structure Anne had in her diary;
further comprehend the loneliness, frustration and other great loss that a war may bring upon people

Teaching Procedure:
Routine
In-class drill (5 mins)
Teacher will prepare topic-related quotes and read aloud three times in constant speed. Students will repeat the complete sentences in accordance with the note they have taken. This task will train their notetaking and listening skills.

Pre-reading
Teacher will ask students following questions:
When do you need a friend the most?
Whom will you share your feelings and secrets with?
Are people different in their diaries from what they are like in front of their friends?
What do you think ‘a true good friend’ should be like?
Play a 2 mins clip from the movie The Diary of Anne Frank, which mainly about the excitement Anne had when she got the diary.
Show the first piece of diary that Anne wrote and highlight the key point:
