Learn to make choices in life
Learning objectives:
In this class, you will
1. sort out the life experiences of Lin Qiaozhi and the choices she made;
2. analyze the main principle guiding Lin Qiaozhi through her choices;
3. analyze what kind of person Dr Lin was.
Teaching key and difficult points:
guide students to summarize the qualities of Dr Lin Qiaozhi;
help students understand the meaning of “hard choices” and the principle of Dr Lin’s choices.
Teaching procedure:
Step 1: lead-in (Sharing opinions about choices in our lives.) (4 mins)
What Is Life? They say it’s from B to D. From Birth to Death. But what’s between B and D? It’s a “C”. So What is a “C”?It is a Choice. Our life is a matter of choices.
What are some important life choices?What choices have you ever made?
---Important choices a person can make in life include decisions on university study, jobs, and marriage partners. Those choices are important because they determine our future. However, the most important choices include moral decisions--how we live our lives and treat others.
Today, we are going to learn a passage about the choices one has made throughout her life.
Step 2:
Activity 1 Talking about the title (3 mins)
Look at the title of the passage Mother of Ten thousand Babies, and the two pictures, guess what is the passage about?How do you understand the title?
Activity 2 Activity 2: Recognize the text type (5mins+2min)
Read the passage quickly and keep the two questions in mind at the same time.
What kind of text is it? (biography 传记)
In what order is the text organized? (In order of time / in chronological order)
Biography has 7 characteristics: It is written in the third person, containing birth and death time, family background, childhood, and turning points in life. It also quotes their own or other people’s words, which is called quotes. Most importantly, all the events are organized in time order.
