Echocardiography is the preferred method to confirm the diagnosis, to define the etiology, and to evaluate the severity of valve disease. Due to various reasons, the echocardiographic procedures and obtained results are not uinified between different regions, hospitals and examiners. Above phenomenon impedes the comprehensive management of patinets with valvular heart disease. In order to help clinicians make accurate and consistent diagnosis and assessment, to promote the in-depth development of clinical and scientific research related to valvular heart disease, it is necessary to establish consensus on standardized echocardiographic examination procedures and evaluation criteria. The establishment of this consensus might have important clinical implication for the diagnosis, risk stratification, treatment and prognosis evaluation of patients with valvular heart disease.
