Yes, it is Ciqikou.And here we are. Here you could see a gateway engraved with the word “Ciqikou”. Ciqikou is situated on the bank of the Jia Ling River, covering an area of some 1.2 square kilometers (291.6 acres) it is 14 kilometers to the west of Chongqing Municipality. It remainds me of an old Chinese proverb: one flagstone road, and one thousand years Ciqikou. The history of Ci Qi Kou can be traced back for more than 700 years. There is a legend about the early Ming emperor JianWen .In 1402, he was usurped [ju:z?: p] the throne by his uncle Zhu Di. He had to take refuge. Then he came to Chongqing and shaved his head, hiding himself in a temple of this place. By coincidence, there were four big words ----LongYin Buddhist Temple on the wall. So the town was given the name LongYin. However, we have to admit the fact that, during the Ming 1 and Qing Dynasties (1368-1911 AD), the town was famous for its production of porcelain. To date, over twenty old kiln sites have been discovered there. It is because of the importance of the porcelain industry that the name has been changed from LongYin to Ci Qi Kou which being translated means “Porcelain Village.” And this fact has been recognized by the State Council and in 1998 Ci Qi Kou became a protected cultural site. Ciqikou is a source of Baci Culture. Many famous people lived here during the Second Sino-Japanese War. For instance, GuoMoruo, a famous poet who reaches the same reputation in China as well as Henry Longfellow in America, created many of his works here. Samuel Chao Chung Ting, a Chinese-born American scientist, the winner of Nobel Prize in physics, studied here for many years during his childhood in the time of Sino-Japanese war.
