Candidates of Non-English Majors by Professor BAN Rongxue Faculty of Foreign Languages Northwest University 非英语专业博士研究生 (公共英语课程) 技术写作与科技翻译 Technical WritingSci-Tech Translation Course Description This dual-aim course of English Technical WritingSci-Tech Translation in cluding Paper Writing and Publication is specially designed for non-English major graduate students, particularly for MA. Candidates of Integrated Sciences. The students are assumed to have passed CET Band-6 or examinations of other corresponding graduate English courses. Course Objectives (i) The course aims to enable the students to acquire overall knowledge of Technical WritingSci-Tech Translation in professional paper writing and translating, and to enhance their comprehension of professional editing. (ii) The course attempts to develop the students’ capacity of writing, translating, and publishing their professional papers in the international journals, as well as the ability to participate in international conferences on the basis of their prepared papers. Outline of Contents With academic English as its core, and with the principle elements of Technical Writing and translating as its clue, the course consists of 8 units, encompassing the writing and translating of title, author, affiliation, keywords, abstract, introduction, main body, discussion, acknowledgements, references, appendixes, etc. Technical requirements, knowledge and strategies of paper publication, and other related areas of information are also included in the course. It also gives an introduction to Technical Writing as an emerging profession in the USA and Integrated Sciences as a course newly offered in American higher institutions, and expounds their relation to sci-tech translation as well as the implication for training technical translators in China.
