Abstract:Themotivationbehindthisresearchisthegrowingpopularityofweb-basedsystemsandtheneedtoexploretheShortMessageService(SMS)technologythatindustriescouldtapintotoenhancetheirservicestothecustomers.Thispaperdescribedanotification-basedcontentalertandweb-basedsystemusingSMStechnology.Itwasspecificallydevelopedforthealertnotificationtothecustomersaboutthecarrentalinformation,andtheavailabilityofthecarreserved.ThemainpurposeofdevelopingSMS-basedcontentalertforcarrentalsystemistoreducethecostandtimeconsumed,whichisbeneficialtothecarrentalagenciesandcustomers.Therefore,thesystemwasdesignedautomaticallytosendanalertSMStothecustomersabouttheavailabilityofthecarreserved.ThissystemwasdevelopedbasedonSystemDevelopmentLifeCycle(SDLC)usingthewaterfallmodelasamethodology.Auseracceptancetestingwasconductedwiththirty(30)respondentstodeterminetheeffectivenessofthesystembyevaluatingthequestionnairewhichwascategorizedintothree(3)partsincludesuserinterfacedesign,usefulness,easeofuseandusabilityandalertsystemfunction.Resultsofthesystemevaluationshowedthatoverallweresatisfiedwithallcategoriesrespectively.Hence,thesystemusingweb-basedandSMStechnologyisacceptedbycustomers,convenient,economicandreliablemethodofnotificationforthecarrentalagencies.
