Whenusedinthischapter--
(a)Thetermcarrierincludestheownerorthechartererwhoentersintoa
contractofcarriagewithashipper.
(b)Thetermcontractofcarriageappliesonlytocontractsofcarriage
coveredbyabillofladingoranysimilardocumentoftitle,insofarassuch
documentrelatestothecarriageofgoodsbysea,includinganybillofladingor
anysimilardocumentasaforesaidissuedunderorpursuanttoacharterparty
fromthemomentatwhichsuchbillofladingorsimilardocumentoftitleregulates
therelationsbetweenacarrierandaholderofthesame.
(c)Thetermgoodsincludesgoods,wares,merchandise,andarticlesofevery
kindwhatsoever,exceptliveanimalsandcargowhichbythecontractofcarriageis
statedasbeingcarriedondeckandissocarried.
