Afternearly50yearsofdevelopment,Chinasmachinery

industryhasbecomeaconsiderablesizeintheindustryand

certaintechnicalbasisofoneofthelargestindustries.1997

salesincome1.3651trillionyuan,accountingfor21percentof

thenationalindustry;profits25.7billionyuan,62.1billion

yuantax,whichaccountedfor15percentofthenational

industry;export36.3billionU.S.dollars,accountingfor20per

centofforeigntradeexports.Itsgrowthratehigherthanthe

sameperiodtheaverageindustrialgrowthrate.

Inrecentyears,themachineryindustrialenterprisesinthe

developmentofindependentinnovationcapabilityhas

increased,scientificandtechnicalpersonnelin1997amounted

to480,000thetotalnumberofpeople,technologydevelopment

expendituresamountedto8.5billionyuan,theindustry-wide

salesrevenueof0.62percent,with57largeenterprisesto

establishanational-Classtechnologycenter,ninepercentof

theenterprisessetupspecialtechnologydevelopment

significantprogress,themainproblems:thenationaleconomy

toprovidecompletesetsofequipmentandvehicleshave

greaterabilitytoimprovetheproductstructurebeing

rationalizedDirection.
