Background:

Chineseuniversitymottoshavealonghistoryandrichculturalconnotations.Traditionally,theyareinChinese,reflectingthevaluesandtraditionsofChinesesociety.Inrecentyears,however,manyuniversitieshavestartedtouseEnglishtranslationsoftheirmottosinpromotionalmaterialsandoncampus.Thereisagrowingdemandforaccurateandeffectivetranslationofthesemottos,whichposeschallengesfortranslatorsduetothedifferencesbetweenChineseandEnglishlanguagesandcultures.Moreover,thetranslationofuniversitymottosinvolvesnotonlylinguistictranslation,butalsointerculturalcommunicationandinterdiscursivity,sincetheyarecontext-boundandcloselyrelatedtotheuniversityshistory,culture,andmission.

1.WhatarethecharacteristicsofChineseuniversitymottosintermsoftheirlinguisticfeaturesandculturalmeanings?

ResearchMethods:

Thisstudywilladoptaqualitativeapproach,usingdocumentanalysisandcasestudiestoexaminethelinguisticandculturalfeaturesofChineseuniversitymottosandtheirEnglishtranslations,andtoexploretheinterdiscursivityandinterculturalityinthetranslationprocess.Theresearchwillinvolvecollectingandanalyzingdatafromvarioussources,suchasofficialuniversitywebsites,promotionalmaterials,interviewswithtranslationprofessionals,andcross-culturalcommunicationstudies.
