Asaparticipantofthecollegestudentswesternvolunteerprogram,IhadtheopportunitytospendasummerinaruralvillageinGuizhouprovince.Initially,Iwasabithesitantandunsureaboutwhattoexpect,butassoonasIarrivedinthevillage,Iwaswarmlywelcomedbythelocalswhowereeagertoshowmearoundandintroducemetotheirwayoflife.

Duringmytimeinthevillage,IwasinvolvedinvariousactivitiessuchasteachingEnglishtothelocalchildren,helpingwithagriculturalwork,andorganizinghealtheducationworkshops.Throughtheseactivities,Iwasabletonotonlymakeapositiveimpactonthelocalcommunitybutalsolearnvaluablelifeskillsandgainadeeperunderstandingofthechallengesfacedbypeoplelivinginruralareas.

OneofthemostmemorableexperiencesIhadduringmytimeinthevillagewashelpingtobuildanewschoolforthelocalchildren.Theschoolthattheywerepreviouslyattendingwasinapoorconditionandnotconducivetolearning.Withthehelpofothervolunteers,wewereabletobuildanewschoolusinglocalmaterialsandtraditionaltechniques.Seeingthejoyandgratitudeintheeyesofthechildrenandtheirparentswhentheysawtheirnewschoolwastrulyrewardingandheartwarming.
