ThephotoisamoviestillfromthefilmTheMillionPoundNote,whichwasmadeintheUKin1954.HeretheAmericanactorGregoryPeckholdsupthemillion-poundbanknoteinahotellobbyforalltosee,asproofthathereallyhasit.WhilethefilmisfictionandthecashnotethatPeckisholdingupisjustafilmprop,suchnotesactuallyexist.Infact,thelargestbanknoteproducedbytheBankofEnglandhasavalueof100millionpounds.Suchbanknotesarenotplacedincirculationbutareusedforinternalbankingpurposesandkeptinspecialvaultsoutsideofthepublicview.In1893,MarkTwainheardoftheexistenceofsuchnotes,andbecameintrigued.AsaresulthewroteanovellacalledTheMillionPoundBankNoteabouttwowealthybrotherswhoarrangedtoborrowoneofthesebanknotesandgaveittoahomelessstrangerinordertosatisfyabet.
