HTTPStreaming

HTTPstreamingisamechanismforsendingdatafromaWebservertoaWebbrowserinresponsetoanevent.HTTPStreamingisachievedthroughseveralcommonmechanisms.

Inonesuchmechanismthewebserverdoesnotterminatetheresponsetotheclientafterdatahasbeenserved.ThisdiffersfromthetypicalHTTPcycleinwhichtheresponseisclosedimmediatelyfollowingdatatransmission.

Thewebserverleavestheresponseopensuchthatifaneventisreceived,itcanimmediatelybesenttotheclient.Otherwisethedatawouldhavetobequeueduntiltheclientsnextrequestismadetothewebserver.Theactofrepeatedlyqueingandre-requestinginformationisknownasaPollingmechanism.

TypicalusesforHTTPStreamingincludemarketdatadistribution(stocktickers),livechat/messagingsystems,onlinebettingandgaming,sportresults,monitoringconsolesandSensornetworkmonitoring.
