ABSTRACT

Containerterminalsworldwidethatarenearairportsoftenhavesignificantheightrestrictions

requiringlowprofileship-to-shorecontainercranes(LPCs).CurrentgenerationLPCsare

significantlyheavierandmorecomplex,andpresentchallengesforcraneandwharfdesigners.

Theycanweigh6,000kip(2,680tonne),with400ft(122m)long,20ft(6.1m)deeptruss

boomsthatshuttlebackandforth,resultinginunusuallylargeloadsonthewharfgirdersystem.

Thispaperfollowsthepaperco-authoredbyArunBhimaniandAnnaDixofLiftechandClaude

considerationsfordesignoftheinfrastructuresupportingsomeofthelargestLPCs.Itpresents

anoverviewoftherecentlycompletedconstructionofthecranerailgirdersystemandother
