Customsisagovernmentagencyresponsibleforregulatingshipmentsenteringacountryoraregion.Allshipmentsbeingsenttoandfromacountryoraregionshouldnotberemovedoutofthecustoms’controlwithoutthewrittenpermissionofthecustomsauthorities,thatistosay,customsmustbeclearedfirst.Sinceregulationsdifferfromcountrytocountry,tradersmustbefullyawareoflicensing,specialprovisionsandrestrictedandprohibitedgoodsinthecountrytowhichthegoodsareshipped.SectionONE

8.1StagesofcustomsclearanceTherearefourstagesincustomsclearance,i.e.,declaration,inspection,taxpayment(taxes,VAT,duties)andrelease.8.1.1DeclarationBeforepermissionisgiventoremovethegoodsoutofthecustoms’control,theowneroragentisrequiredtosubmitaBillofEntry,CustomsDeclaration,orInwardPermit,asmaybeprescribedbylaw,intheprescribedformtoenablethecustomsauthoritiestoexamine,inspectandappraisethegoods.SectionONE

8.1.2InspectionToensurethatthegoodsareinstrictcompliancewiththeparticularsinthesubmitteddeclarationsuchasthegoods’nature,value,quantityandspecifications,thedescriptionofgoods,thenameoftheship,theportofshipment,theplaceoforigin,etc.,thecustomsauthoritieswillcheckandinspectthegoodsimportedorexportedatdocks,airports,stations,postoffices,orcustoms.Itisonewaytocarryoutrelevantforeigntradepoliciesandsuperviseinternationaltrade.

8.1.3CustomspaymentsAccordingtotheCustomsLaw,internationalshipmentsareoftenliabletoimportdutiesandtaxesbasedontheimportandexporttariffsetbygovernments.Theimportdutyiswhatacountrycustomswill
