youstartworking.We’vespentalotoftimeonportraitsinthisclass,andmoving

frompaintingpeopletopaintingobjectsmightfeellikeabigshift,but…Ithinkits

importantforyoutounderstandthatyoucanpackjustasmuchlife,andvibrancy,

andexcitement,intoapaintingofabowloffruit,asyoucanintosomethingmore

dynamic.

Andyouknow,stilllifesdontjustneedtobestraightforwardrepresentations….Alot

ofstill-lifepaintersreallyusethesimplicityofthestyletosendamessage,or—ortell

astory.Evenportraitssometimesincludeelementsofstill-lifepaintings;forexample,

inaportraittheremightbeamaphangingonthewall,ortheremightbesome

booksonatablenexttothesubject.Theseobjectstellyousomethingaboutthe

subject,like,uh,maybethatpersonwaswelleducated.

Abigpartofstill-lifepaintingistheuseofthosekindsofsymbols—theobjectsyou

includecanprovidemorecontextandhelpconveyyourmessage.I’dalsoliketoshow

everyoneanexampleofstilllife,thatwecantalkaboutalittleand…ah,anduse—to
